Most boats sailed by people with disabilities have keels and need a pontoon or a dock with deep water but the Challenger floats in shallow water because it is light and has a swivelling centreboard The sailor can get in before launching, which is safe, dry and easy

For people with mobility problems the Challenger is easy to use because many can get into the cockpit unaided. For others a little assistance from a helper can be useful and there are hoists at most group sites for anyone who finds the transfer too difficult

Sailing is a great therapy giving exercise and relaxation but, for those who need a greater challenge, there is racing. Almost every sailing club organises a race programme and the Challenger Class runs a National Regatta circuit with events throughout the UK
